CD This is Jimmy LaFave's first studio album in almost four years, and follows the success of his "bootleg" double-CD Trail. The 16 songs on Texoma cover all the traditional LaFave territory ranging from gotta dance rockers like "Poor Man's Dream" and "On the Road to Rock 'n' Roll," to heart-melting ballads like "Never is a Moment" and "Woody Guthrie." And with songs like "Glorious Day" and "Love Can Find Its Own Way" someone is bound to refer to Texoma as LaFave's "happy album." Jimmy also does some surprising covers, including a stunning take on John Phillips' "San Francisco," and a breathtaking version of Jimmy Webb's notoriously hard-to-get-right "The Moon's a Harsh Mistress." Also noteworthy is his cover of Gretchen Peters' "On a Bus to St. Cloud," long a concert favorite. And of course any LaFave record would be incomplete without a Dylan tune; this time out it's a truly transcendent "Emotionally Yours." Texoma finds Jimmy reunited with Larry Wilson and guitars and David Webb on keyboards, both key contributors to his Austin Skyline album.
